Contactless Flow Measurement of Molten Materials

Currently there is no identified solution for molten metal and slag flow measurements due to temperature and corrosive properties of the material. Real time knowledge of process product mass flow would be instrumental for plant automation and process control. Additionally, this project is in line with automation, remote control paths that most industrials are taking. Automated measurements decrease personnel exposure to potentially harmful situations. This project seeks to contribute to the science and engineering of contactless sensors where there is very little literature on the topic and determine the real time mass flow rate of molten materials such as metals or slag slowing in a trough or pipe
