This project explores finding ways to accurately and fast measure the Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio in metallurgical slags to gain information on the pO2 and to predict important slag characteristics at high temperature (viscosity, electrical conductivity…) and after solidification for slag valorisation purposes. The following are being undertaken.
- Literature study to determine suitable techniques to measure Fe2+/Fe3+
- Thermodynamic investigation on relation oxygen partial pressure and Fe2+/Fe3+ in slag
- Lab scale tests and analysis to determine the feasibility of the selected technique(s) to measure the Fe2+/Fe3+ ratio in multi-component and multi-phase slags in a fast and accurate way
