Apelian Welcomed to Tsinghua University

Professor Baicheng Liu, leading member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University, greets Professor Apelian at a welcoming luncheon in Beijing. Prof. Liu is one of the first academicians that came to USA when the “doors opened” between China and USA, and Liu worked at University Wisconsin’s metal casting laboratory with the late Professor Carl Loper. Apelian spent Dec 11-15 at Tsinghua as invited guest of the University. Apelian was appointed Global Scholar Fellow of Tsinghua University, an honor that is given to a select few each year by Tsinghua’s leadership. Tsinghua University is China’s top ranking university, and the relationship between WPI and Tsinghua is quite special. Yi Chi Mei, WPI class of 1914, founded Tsinghua’s Engineering School and served as President of Tsinghua University in 1931.
