ACRC Welcomes ATEK Precision Castings as New Member
ATEK Precision Castings (APC), located in New Hampton, Iowa is a wholly owned subsidiary of ATEK Companies, headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. Founded in 1935 the company is a recognized leader in the production of gravity pour permanent mold (PM) and low pressure permanent mold (LPPM) aluminum castings supplied to commercial and defense markets.
ATEK Precision Castings, relocated to Iowa in 2006 with the launch of a new green field foundry that was equipped with state-of-the-art CPC low pressure molding equipment. The plant was designed using lean manufacturing principles to produce complex cored, pressure tight and cosmetic aluminum engine component and structural castings that meet demanding customer requirements. APC provides full engineering and design assistance to customers to insure their product designs can be cast successfully and the parts will meet the required customer performance characteristics. The company utilizes Magma solidification to validate die designs developed using Pro-E CAD.
APC produces LPPM castings that weigh up to 120 pounds and have a dimensional footprint of 30” X 30” and PM castings that weight up to 200 pounds and have a dimensional footprint of 36”X 48”. The company also has internal heat treatment and complete non-destructive testing capabilities including X-Ray and liquid penetrant inspection. The ATEK Precision Castings quality system was designed to comply with ISO 9002-2008 system requirements. The company is now in process of securing formal certification by end of Q1 2012. ATEK Precision Castings has extensive experience as a tier 1 supply chain leader who supplies machined, finished and assembled castings ready for shipment.
