New Research at the Advanced Casting Research Center
ACRC faculty and students are researching and working on a variety of interesting projects (precompetitive and fundamental) funded by industry members and the DOE and US Army. The Center performs basic and developmental research relevant to the industry. This academic year, research will be conducted on the following ACRC projects:
- Alternate Eutectic Systems for Aluminum Casting Alloys
- Aluminum Nano-Composites for Elevated Temperature Applications
- Clean Aluminum: Processing Methodologies and Performance on Mechanical Properties
- High Performance Die Casting Alloys: Castings for Improved Readiness
- HyperCAST – Vehicle Energy Efficiency via SHS Composite Components (funded by the US DOE)
- Precipitation Strengthening of Aluminum by Transition Metal Aluminides
- Processing Routes for Al Based Nano-Compostes High Performance Nano-Composite Materials – Superior Weapons through Castings Program (funded by the US Army – Benet Labs)
- For more information on all on-going and completed ACRC research projects, please visit our website.
WPI graduate students working on ACRC research are Cecilia Borgonovo, Yang Yang Fan, Shaymus Hudson, and Shi Yan.
Advising our students are WPI Profs. Makhlouf M. Makhlouf (Director of ACRC), Diran Apelian (Director of MPI), Libo Wang (Research Professor), and Lance Wu (Post-Doctoral Fellow).
