In 2017, Jim Chiarelli and Steve McCauley advised projects sponsored by Footprints Possibilities, IDAAN, the Technological University of Panama, and Oteima University. 2017 was the third year of the NSF-funded IRES grant, which supported one MQP team advised by Aaron Sakulich in Partnership with the Panama Canal Authority.
