Prof. Camesano attended the National Science Foundation’s Conference on the Transforming Undergraduate Education in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (TUES) Program on January 23-25, 2013. Her presentation was entitled “Grand Challenges Approach to Undergraduate Nanobiotechnology Lab”, with co-authors Prof. Jianyu Liang (Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering) and Dr. Jeanne Hubelbank (Evaluation Consultant). This presentation described the efforts of the team to create a hands-on laboratory course for engineering and science students in the field of nanobiotechnology. With funding from NSF, the course was developed and offered at WPI in the last two academic years. Students were given a high-level challenge, and responded to the challenge by designing their own experiments to test their designs. Videos were created by each team of students, and will be disseminated to the broader scientific community.

What words come to mind when you think of Nanobiotechnology?
