Our Mission Statement: WPI’s Alden Voices is an all-female, non-audition choral ensemble. The group seeks to create an inclusive environment for vocalists of all skill levels and a social community on campus. Not only does the group strive for excellence in musicality, but it also provides a platform for students to engage with relevant issues, appreciate multiple cultural backgrounds, and interact with the larger Worcester community.
Our History: Women were first admitted to WPI in 1968, with the first female choral ensemble founded on campus in 1976. For over forty years, Alden Voices has provided a creative outlet for women at a tech-based school. The ensemble gives multiple concerts on campus each academic year and has toured throughout New England and abroad to Europe and Puerto Rico.
The organization provides ample leadership opportunities co-led by a student executive board and Professor Joshua W Rohde.
Our Conductor:
Dr. Joshua W. Rohde is the Director of Choral Activities at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he conducts all four of the university’s choral ensembles – Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Alden Voices, Festival Chorus, and the Chamber Choir. He is also the Music Director of both the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra and the Quincy Choral Society, and performs as an active professional cellist throughout the Boston area.
