Theme: Human Connection in a Virtual World
Artist Statement:
I painted this in response to the theme: Human Connection in a Virtual World. Even before this pandemic, I’ve observed technology taking over our human interactions. I miss talking to people in person. I feel that technology interferes with genuine human connection. Yes, we can use Zoom to talk or email or text. But it’s just not the same. I have painted my dissatisfaction with the current situation. I represented the “virtual world” with a monster who has large teeth. Humans are reaching out from their devices (cell phone and laptop). They attempt to connect and show their love while the monster palms the devices and watches, demonstrating the control technology has over our species. I am hopeful that humans can still connect virtually, it is just a sad time.
