Theme: Identity, Agency, and Optimism in a Pandemic
Artist Statement:
I painted this in response to the theme: Identity, Agency, and Optimism in a Pandemic. Like many humans, I’ve found isolation challenging at times. There have been some very bad days with all the horrors continuing throughout the planet. But I’ve found painting to be fairly therapeutic. I’ve created art to pass time and express myself, retain some positivity. I painted myself standing at the base of a bacteriophage. I’m looking up and shooting art out of my hands in a bright beam of light. I’m wearing headphones because I’ve found music has helped me remain optimistic about the future. The art and music forms vaccines and loving aliens fighting against bacteriophages.
