Theme: Empathy and Imagination in Challenging Times

Artist Statement:
The submitted work is an effort to depict the sorrow of our community due to COVID-19. Isolated in our homes, we try to stay connected in a virtual world while experiencing intense emotions caused by the suffrage and losses of our fellows. “The Waltz of Sadness” symbolizes our connection as humans and the need for reimagining our community. The circles, which emerge and depict a ballet waltz, represent the number of deaths in US states and territories due to COVID-19 since January 21′ st.
