Geek is Glam STEM Expo

Geek Is Glam STEM Expo has run as an annual day-long interactive STEM conference for middle school girls (grades 4-8) since 2014. Hosted by Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute campus, GSCWM recruits some 60 to 80 education and adventure collaborators each year to give girls access to some of the region’s top scientific and engineering minds as they engage in the exploration and discovery of science, technology, engineering and mathematics on the beautiful WPI campus.

Employing the Future: Planning for STEM Career Connected Learning

In this 90 minute session, participants will develop a shared understanding of work-based learning (WBL) and career-connected learning (CCL) with a focus on STEM careers and explore how these approaches can be integrated across K-12 education.

Counted Out: Examine the power of math in shaping our democracy!

Join us on for a special free screening and discussion of Counted Out, a thought-provoking documentary that reveals how numbers influence everything from voting and policy to public opinion. Examine how the teaching and learning of math is essential for an informed society.

BVYLA Southwick Zoo

The Blackstone Valley Youth Leadership program will visit Southwick Zoo to tour and learn about STEM careers within the Zoo. This is for 9th and 10th graders enrolled in the BVYLA program through Blackstone Valley Education Foundation

Mass Academy Students will push in to Tatnuck Elementary School in Worcester to facilitate a series of STEM lessons for Tatnuck students.

R.I.S.E. Design Challenge

The RISE Design Challenge invites students across Massachusetts to solve real-world problems using photonics-based sensing—technology that uses light to detect and measure. Schools host culminating events at their school during STEM week and submit student projects to Spark for judging. Finalists are invited to a virtual showcase later in the semester.

This year’s theme, Sustainability & Public Health, encourages students to explore solutions in three areas:

Eureka! Innovation Tank

To celebrate STEM Week, our Eureka! program participants teams will pitch innovative solutions to real-world problems. This fast-paced event showcases creativity, leadership, and the power of STEM to spark change in our communities.

H2-O Yeah!

The goal of H2-O Yeah is to have students at Auburn Middle School design and build an effective, multi-stage water filtration system using common materials to simulate the real-world challenge of cleaning contaminated water

Audience: Middle School

Engineering Bandages

Auburn Middle School students in the Young Engineers Club collaborate and use the EDP to design bandages that can cover and protect a model cut. Youths learn that different parts of a bandage work together to create a successful design (similar to real-life people working together to solve a common problem).
