ACRC Hot Tearing Publication Wins Best Paper Prize

Dr. Shimin Li and co-authors K. Sadayappan and D. Apelian (Director of MPI and ACRC professor) were awarded the best paper prize for their paper ‘Characterisation of hot tearing in Al cast alloys: methodology and procedures’ published in the International Journal of Cast Metals Research (2011, Vol. 24, p. 88) by The Worshipful Company of Founders.  “Describing hot tearing of cast alloys has long been a challenge and the authors have developed a facility that could possibly be used on cast shop floors so as to control the sensitivity of a casting to hot tearing in industrial conditions. Such a facility could certainly be of great help to foundry-men, in particular if the reproducibility of the experiments is effective.”

Established in 2011, the biennial prize for best paper published in the International Journal of Cast Metals Research was established to reinforce, and demonstrate internationally, the Worshipful Company of Founders’ commitment to scientific and technical research and the application of this research for the benefit of industry and society in general.
