About the Campaign

Beyond These Towers

The Campaign for Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Now, more than ever, the world needs WPI’s innovators, educators, makers, and doers—people with the knowhow and the tenacity to work across disciplinary, cultural, and geographic boundaries to take on the world’s greatest and most consequential problems. Realizing the vision of a truly globally engaged university will take an unprecedented commitment from the greater WPI community; this goal is beyond any set before:

$500 million
$350 million in philanthropy
$150 million in sponsored research

But we are undaunted, for imagining and developing solutions to the toughest challenges is in our DNA.

Our drive to go beyond is fueled by the belief that what we have created and what we do at WPI can be of immense value to a world beset by challenges. We need champions to help us get there.

Be a champion.

President Laurie LeshinMessage from President Leshin

Dear Alumni, Parents, Friends, and Partners,

Beyond These Towers: The Campaign for WPI represents the deepest core of this university and our highest aspirations as a community of educators, innovators, makers, and doers. With this campaign, we reaffirm our dedication to a STEM education that works—a distinctive, hands-on project-based approach, with a global focus, built upon a tried-and-true foundation of theory and practice. We also redouble our commitment to creating positive impact in the world through our faculty research and by preparing our students to make meaningful contributions to society.

Our current strategic plan, Lead with Purpose: WPI 2021-2026, is aligned with and underpins this campaign. Lead with Purpose focuses on why we do this work at WPI. When we asked ourselves that very question, the answers were simple, clear, and inspiring: to transform lives, to turn knowledge into action to confront the world’s challenges, and to revolutionize STEM.

These aspirations are high—but that is what this campaign is about. Beyond These Towers is about extending ourselves, reaching higher than we think possible, and achieving beyond our expectations. At WPI, we have never been a community content with complacency. “Good enough” has never been good enough for us. We have always sought better solutions, brighter futures, expanded universes.

And as with any great discovery or technological advancement, we cannot do it alone.

Many of our alumni, parents, friends, and partners already engage with us in important ways to advance the work of our students and faculty. Beyond These Towers: The Campaign for WPI offers many ways to support WPI in this important endeavor. I invite you to learn more about the campaign and how you can help launch our expedition to tomorrow’s university and a brighter world.

With gratitude,
Laurie Leshin
President

Will you help us go beyond?

In Two Towers, WPI’s centennial history, Mildred Tymeson famously observed that WPI has endured, evolved, and prospered “because—by some strange and wonderful supply— there have always been enough people who cared.” It is time, once again, for people who care to come forward and come together to support WPI in this unprecedented campaign. Make your gift today.
