Abstract
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) sponsored a research project investigating perceptions of hazards that affect the Australian rail industry. The goal of the project was to provide appropriate information so the CSIRO may be able to make research contributions to these hazards. Experts were interviewed to rate the hazards and determine their importance. The most important hazard in the Australian rail industry was collisions and second most important hazard there were fires followed by a two-way tie between derailments and human factor.
