The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) will be continuing our Seminar Series this year over Zoom! We will have our first speaker on Thursday, October 1 at 5pm. Joe Callender will be giving a talk entitled “Math? What are you gonna do with that?”. Joe is the Executive Director of EY, a company based in Washington, D.C., that combines business, math, computer science, and data analytics to help businesses overcome and grow from challenges. He will go through his (winding) journey back to studying mathematics, give some examples of how he uses it in his current work doing survey research, and provide some advice on skills and avenues students can acquire and take to put their mathematical training to use in a business setting.
With data science being an increasingly popular degree and minor at WPI, SIAM is excited to continue the enthusiasm and welcome WPI Professor Lane Harrison to present a talk on data visualization. Please join us this Wednesday, December 2 at 5pm to learn more about this crucial and highly demanded field of mathematics!
SIAM is excited to announce the next speaker in our seminar series. This Tuesday, May 4 at 1pm we will be hosting a talk by Dr. Carolyn Cho. Carolyn is currently the Director and Senior Principal Scientist at Merck Research Laboratories. She will be giving a talk on “Mathematical Modeling in Drug Discovery and Development”. We hope that you are able to attend!
