We successfully held our 7th annual “Sonia Kovalevsky Day (SK Day): An Empowering Day for Middle School Girls Who Love Math!” on campus on Saturday, April 12 (despite the random mid-April snowstorm that swept through on the morning of!).
This year’s event included opening remarks by WPI math department chair Prof. Sarah Olson, a Q&A with recent Mathematical Sciences alumna (and former AWM exec member!) Laura Staugler, and an engaging keynote talk by Prof. Lidia Mrad from Mount Holyoke College.
Throughout the day, our WPI AWM chapter student and faculty volunteers led interactive activities such as math bingo, modular origami, “coupon collector” coding, and cipher wheels.
