Personal and Professional Developmental Series – Summer Opportunities (A-term 2020)

AWM hosted its first Professional and Personal Development Series event on Summer Opportunities for Women in Mathematics! The goal of this event was to talk about different summer opportunities such as research and internships within industry. The panel helped to discuss how all of these different opportunities can lay the groundwork for more chances in the future!

Personal and Professional Developmental Series – Industry Opportunities (B-term 2020)

Next we had our industry opportunities series which was run alongside with the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. We had Dr. Suzanne L. Weekes (now current Executive Director of SIAM) giving a keynote talk and panelists coming to speak about their experience in industry. 

Spring 2021

Personal and Professional Development Series – Recognizing and Overcoming Gender Bias (C-term 2021)

In this workshop our speaker, Dr. Tiffiny Butler, lead the
discussion about gender discrimination and gender bias. We
learned through interactive activities how to recognize, face, and
overcome these challenges as a woman in a male-dominated field.
We discussed a case study together and focus on how to recognize
and deal with gender bias and where to find support at WPI or in a
workplace environment.

Personal and Professional Development Series – Graduate School Experience (D-term 2021)

To finish off our Personal and Professional Development Series for the year, discussed the Graduate School Experience: From Application to Graduation. We had Dr. Sarah Olson as our keynote speaker and a panel of graduate students who will discuss their experience in graduate school.
