Pro Tip Tuesday: Add an image to your course card in Canvas Dashboard

Filed in Canvas by on October 3, 2017

Have you seen classes that are utilizing images on the Dashboard in Canvas? Want to get rid of that “boring” color that’s assigned to your course in Canvas and make your class stand out from the rest?  Then you’ve come to the right place.

A few things to know before you begin:

  1. Accepted images include JPG, JPEG, GIF, and PNG files. For best practice, images should be approximately 262 pixels wide by 146 pixels high.
  2. Don’t have an idea for an image? You can search for one via Flickr without even leaving Canvas; the search results display images with a Creative Commons public domain license.

Customized course cards on Dashboard

  1. In your course, click on Settings
  2. Click on the Course Details tab
  3. Click the Choose Image button
  4. Drag and drop an image into the specified area, or browse your computer to locate an image by clicking on Browse your computer
  5. To use an image from Flickr, enter a search term in the Search field.  When you find one you like, click on the image.

  2. Click on the Course Details tab
  3. Click on the “Gear” icon in the top left corner of your image
  4. Click the Change image option (then complete the previous steps 1-6 again to add an image)
  5. To remove the image completely, click the Remove image option.
  6. Click Update Course Details to save your changes.
