New Feature Review – Canvas Quizzing Tool

Filed in Canvas by on August 11, 2022

We’ve been waiting for a long time for Canvas’ new Quizzing tool to be released, and it’s ALMOST here! It’s ready enough that I feel comfortable introducing it to WPI for this year. Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes can be used simultaneously for the next year before we transition officially to the new and improved tool.

New Quizzes is an assessment engine that integrates with Canvas as an LTI tool and will eventually (in 2023) replace the classic quizzes functionality currently existing in Canvas. Instructors can use New Quizzes to create assessments using a variety of new and improved question types and some other oft asked for (and long awaited) improvements.

What’s New with New Quizzes?

  • Student Quiz Accomodations for the whole course (not just quiz by quiz!)
  • Shuffle Answers by Question
  • Printing Quizzes
  • Require Waiting Period Between Attempts
  • Stimulus, Ordering, and Hot Spot Question Types

As we approach our transition date, we will provide more communication with specific resources, timelines, and noteworthy milestones. Canvas Guides are currently available in the Canvas Community if you’d like to get a head start on exploring this new tool.

I recorded this quick video to introduce faculty to the new workflow and increase familiarity with using interface as we approach the transition time in Summer 2023 (anticipated).

If you have any questions or would like to meet to talk about Canvas New Quizzes, please reach out to canvashelp@wpi.edu and we can set up a time to chat!
