Bring STEM to your classroom during MA STEM Week, 2024! The I am STEM – STEM I am lesson library engages students, grades PK-7, in solving problems in books and is designed to empower students to become proud problem solvers. With continued support from the Massachusetts STEM Advisory Council, 8 new lessons will be added to the library and will include a new caregiver ‘Connections’ letter and lesson rubric.

The I am STEM PD is FREE and open to any PK-7 educator (in and out of school) interested in implementing a design challenge with their students. This interactive and engaging 90-minute session will introduce you to the problem-solving process, show you how to navigate the library, and allow you to briefly explore grade-level lessons and try out an activity with colleagues.

Jim Zebrowski, President, Aldrich Astronomical Society, will facilitate a program about imaging which will show how to capture images of prominent objects including the Moon and some star clusters, nebulae, distant galaxies and the recent Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS (pronounced Choo-cheen-SHAHN -ATLAS) seen this week. Jim has a special telescope that can use a built-in camera to image & track the Sun or any deep space object and send it to your cell phone!

Rosie the hen walks around the farmyard, avoiding obstacles that include a rake, pond and beehive. But Rosie is not alone on her journey—careful readers will see Fox lurking in the background. Rosie’s Walk focuses on standards from the computational thinking domain, and challenges students to create an algorithm for Rosie’s original walk (the walk Rosie takes in the story), and then different algorithms Fox moves around. Students use a game board for the farmyard and cut-out figures of Rosie and the fox to test their algorithms.
