Park Spirit of Worcester, Inc.: Evaluating Environmental Justice and Organizational Partnerships for Green Space in Worcester, MA

During our Interactive Qualifying Project, we worked in collaboration with Park Spirit of Worcester, Inc. to understand environmental justice in Worcester and outline key partnerships and organizational resources for green space. Specifically, we interviewed neighboring park organizations and high ranking city officials to evaluate the distribution of resources throughout the city’s green space and partnerships that help parks advocacy.

Park Spirit of Worcester, Inc. is a small nonprofit group that helps to advocate for all of Worcester’s sixty-one parks. They work to protect, to promote, to enhance, and to advocate for Worcester city parks for all individuals to enjoy. Check out their website here.

Our Project

The goal of our project was to provide Park Spirit with information about the distribution of resources throughout green space in Worcester that relates to environmental justice. Additionally, we evaluated partnerships and organizational resources that help aid parks advocacy.

Goals

To effectively help Park Spirit of Worcester, Inc. achieve its mission statement, we developed the following objectives:

1.) Determine whether there is environmental injustice for park governance in Worcester.

2.) Evaluate the types of partnerships and organizational resources that strengthen parks advocacy.
