Education

Courses

At WPI, I teach the following courses.

  • BME2210: Biomedical Signals, Instruments, and Measurements
  • BME595T: BioMEMS and Tissue Microengineering
  • BME360X: Microfluidics Laboratory
  • BME581: Quantitative Imaging Systems

At the Marine Biological Lab (MBL) at Wood’s Hole, MA, I participate in the Neural Systems & Behavior teaching module.  Each year it is held in late June or early July.

Outreach

We actively seek to engage with the community, to share our research, to spark the interests of young scientists, and to provide educators with background and modules that can be introduced into their curriculum. We participate in WPI outreach events, including Engineer’s Week.

We participate in NSF-funded programs to provide students and educators with research opportunities, as well as WPI-funded summer programs (SURF), internally-funded summer research, and volunteer experiences.  Contact Prof. Albrecht for more information if you are interested in working with us!

NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

Each summer, we host 1-2 REU students for a 10-week program that includes a mentored research project and workshops, and a mentoring experience for younger students. Research projects have been accepted to the national Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) meeting each year, and students received funding to travel to the conference and present their work!

 TouchTomorrow

TouchTomorrow at WPI is an unprecedented educational and interactive event for New England, attracting 10,500 people. It is held each June for the past 5 years with exciting science and engineering activities, shows, demonstrations, and challenges. We lead hands-on activities in microfluidics and demonstrations how genes and neurons affect organism behavior.
