Canvas Updates – July 2024

Canvas has made many changes this Summer to improve existing functionality and added a few new things into the mix! See some of the notable changes from July below.

Inbox Updates

Users now have the option to set an automatic response and enable a signature when composing a message.

Modules and Pages Updates

Modules and Pages can now be assigned to individual students or sections.

On the Modules page, instructors can assign students to an entire module and individual module items from the Modules page. Additionally, the Add Module and Edit Module Settings pages are redesigned as trays. In Pages, instructors can assign pages to students and set availability dates. Pages cannot have due dates. Instructors will be able to assign pages to students and sections, as well as set availability dates. This unlocks content tailoring during the initial course design or on the fly based on your learners’ particular needs.

Changes to “Assign to” interface in Assignments and Discussions

In Assignments and Discussions, an Assign To button is now also available at the top of the page.

In Assignments, Discussions and Quizzes, the Assign To user interface is redesigned in a tray. Instructors can differentiate assignments, graded discussions and quizzes as well as manage due dates and availability dates in the redesigned tray.

Then, click the Apply button.

Rubric Updates

The Rubrics page at the admin and course level is redesigned, allowing admin and instructors to search and sort rubrics, view the location rubrics are used, duplicate and archive rubrics, as well as more easily edit existing rubrics. Additionally, the rubrics create and edit interface is redesigned.
