Career Fair Week
It’s that time of year again! The career fair is tomorrow, September 21st, from 12-4 in the Sports and Rec Center and life at the CDC has been crazy busy. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised when the career fairs typically look like this:
Why First Years Should Go to the Career Fair, resume writing workshops, and of course drop-ins for resume critique have all had great turnouts, as has pre-registration. If you have yet to register, you can do so at the career fair starting at 10 AM. If you pre-registered, remember to bring your name tag.
How to prepare:
- Make sure your resume is up to date, critiqued, and thoroughly proofread
- Check out the career fair tipsheet at wpi.edu/+cdctipsheets
- Prepare your outfit (business casual or professional) and make sure everything is clean and ironed
- Practice your elevator pitch
- Download the Career Fair Plus app
- Search through the employers in the Fairs section of Handshake to see which companies you want to visit
- Apply to any jobs your top companies have already posted!
What to bring:
- Resumes (more copies than you plan on needing)
- Student ID
- Pen and paper to take notes
- Name tag if you pre-registered
- Professional folder to keep resumes and notes
- Excitement
Also, be sure to come to the Company Interview Panel tonight (9/20) at 6 PM in HL 116 as well as the Cover Letter and Thank You Notes Workshop Thursday 9/22 at 12 PM in WB 229. Plus, there are lots of company information sessions coming up; see Handshake for event details. These are a great way to get face time with company representatives in a setting that is less formal than an interview and to ask any questions you may have.
Good luck! And feel free to email cdcpeeradvisors17@wpi.edu with any questions!
