Take Your Resume to the Next Level
Hey Everyone!
I hope you are all having a fantastic C term so far. We only haveĀ 3 more weeks until the Spring Career Fair, so I wanted to bring up the topic of resumes. Resume is a single page document which can secure interviews for you with potential employers. Your resume should reflect who you are as well as your skills and qualifications.
For those of you who already have a college resume, make sure to continue updating the information and adding new skills and relevant experiences, which match with your objective. For others who are still working on writing a new resume or haven’t made one since high school, it is time to get started! The CDC is here to help and we have a fantastic Resume Writing Tipsheet, which goes through the different sections of a resume, what to include, and also shows examples. For those of you who are varsity athletes, we have a new tipsheet on Marketing Your Athletic Skills!
To help with creating that perfect resume, make sure to bring a copy of the resume to the CDC during walk-in hours (Monday through Friday, 10 am – 4 pm where Monday 10 am – 1 pm is only for Seniors/Graduate Students, and Monday 1 – 4 pm is only for Freshmen). As we get closer to the Career Fair, the CDC staff is going to get extremely busy, meaning it will be very challenging to meet for a resume critique, so the sooner the better!
There is also a fantastic event known as Resumazing on Thursday, February 11th from 12 – 6 pm on the 4th floor of the Sports and Rec Center. This is also a great opportunity to get your resume critiqued because employers come to this event and critique student resumes, giving us a taste of exactly what they are looking for in a resume.
Good luck and I hope to see all of you at some of these different events. By using all the resources provided to you, it will be easy to take your resume to the next level!
Sincerely,
Omesh Kamat
