Need A Contact? Check Out The CDC’s In-House Computers!
“If I had a contact or an ‘in’ to Company X, I feel like I’d be so much better off. I hate sending to these careers@Xcompany.com email addresses!”
If you’ve been in this type of situation before, chances are, the majority of WPI students are right there with you! It’s frustrating sending questions and applications to online locations that you never hear from again. It’s one of the quickest ways to discourage a career search and negatively impact your interest in searching for greater opportunities.
What most students on campus DON’T KNOW is that the CDC has computers stationed in our lobby area, available to any and all students from our normal operating hours 9am to 5pm, which provide databases of business cards from all those company representatives checked into WPI career-related events from the past six years!
You can also check out CareerSearch, a service through WPI’s JobFinder system, which in their Advanced Search feature at the top of their homepage (see Figure 2 for sign-in procedure) allows students to find companies and contacts close to their hometown!
Last but certainly not least, if you want in-person advice on how to utilize these resources or others that the CDC provides, definitely pencil a time off in your Outlook Calendars for Walk-Ins, which happen every Tuesday through Thursday from 10am – 4pm!
This week we have resume critiques by Bioengineering and Life Sciences employers as well as CDC staff prioritizing Bio-related majors’ resumes in particular, due to the Bioengineering and Life Sciences Fair happening THIS THURSDAY, 12pm-4pm in the Campus Center Odeum!
