A Fantastic CDC Resource: Walk – Ins

Filed in From the Staff by on March 6, 2015

Hey Everyone!!

Before the end of C term, I just wanted to share another experience with you. This term I have been helping out with one hour of walk-ins every Friday for first-year students. It has been a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to do it more! I found out that I am very detail oriented and so it worked out perfectly when I had to critique resumes. I also helped some freshmen with job search strategies, either those who live close to New England and then those who live farther away and wanted a job closer to home.

Overall, it just felt really good to be able to help out those in need. I still remember my freshman year, I came down for a lot of resume critiques and they were a lifesaver, they helped me countless times! I was also happy to see so many first-year students utilizing the resources that are given to them at no extra charge.

Basically, I want to let all of you know that if you ever have an opportunity to go out of your comfort zone and try something new, make the best of it. My other goal was to let you know that more of you should continue using the CDC resources, especially walk-ins. Most students come to walk-ins when we get close to Career Fairs, but since there are so many, the critiques are usually cut short due to time constraints. If you go during the off period, you just might be able to get a long, beneficial, and meaningful walk-in. You can also come and talk to us about any topic that you want; Resume, cover letter, LinkedIn, Job Finder, co-ops, networking, etc.

We will have walk-ins during D term as well and they will be Tuesday – Thursday from 10 am – 4 pm, and Friday from 10 am – 1 pm specially for seniors, and 1 – 4 pm specially for freshmen. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Thanks for reading and until next term!
