#tbt Throwback to the Career Fair

Filed in Career Fair, Finding a Job, Life at WPI by on February 25, 2016

It’s Throwback Thursday so let’s look waaaaaay back to last Thursday and talk about the Career Fair!

Last Thursday over 185 companies came to campus to chat with students about their jobs, their companies, and even possible employment opportunities! Since you’re reading this, I hope you went and now are looking for advice and tips going forward.

First things first, did you grab business cards from each person you spoke to?? If you didn’t, stop by the CDC and use the business card database to find contacts for each company. Now it’s time to reach out to them! Send an email saying thank you. If you need help writing a thank you note/email, check out wpi.edu/+cdctipsheets for a tipsheet on this topic and many others!

More likely than not, you were at the Career Fair and had someone say to you “apply online”.

Total bummer, right? Wrong!

Applying online isn’t the worst thing in the world. Send in your application through JobFinder or their website and send an email to your contact following up. This ensures your best chance at getting your application pushed through. Going into the next Career Fair, make sure to apply online before you go. It’ll make your conversation a bit more interesting.
For all of you Career Fair first-timers, I hope you all had a very positive experience and are looking forward to more Career Fairs in the future! Please reach out to me, or any other Peer Advisor for any and all general career advice. Hit us up at cdcpeeradvisors16@wpi.edu.
