The Right Job!
Hi Everyone,
We’re in the middle of another week, we have almost two weeks left, and my break is over. I did so little work last week I don’t think I count as a WPI student anymore. It was great, all I had to do was focus on school and work, and didn’t think about finding an internship at all, it was fantastic. To top it all off I got to go zip lining this weekend, which was amazing.
But now it’s time to get back to work. For the past two years I really just wanted a job, I didn’t care what the company did, where it was or anything like that. I just wanted a job. That’s primarily because I didn’t think any company would want to hire me. I was always too scared that no one would want to hire me because I didn’t have enough experiences or they just didn’t like me. Which is true sometimes, but as I learned why wouldn’t they want to hire me. At least now, I have an internship and a co-op under my belt, three jobs on campus, and several other organizations that I’m involved with. My GPA might not be mind-blowing but so what if I had a couple of bad terms? I wouldn’t want to work for a company that would only want me if I had a 4.0 GPA. I want to work for a company that wants me for my extracurricular activities as much or even more than my academic achievements. So this year it’s different. I’m not just applying to every company I can find, I’m looking into the company beforehand and seeing if it’s a good fit for me before they get to decide if I’m a good fit for them.
This coming week I’m going to every information session I can to learn if I want to work for these companies. I’ll research them on my own as well, and ask around before I even consider applying. The thing is WPI gives us options, we just need to believe that we have those options. So this year instead of just getting a job, let’s get the right job!
