The Right Job!

Filed in Finding a Job by on October 2, 2013

Hi Everyone,

We’re in the middle of another week, we have almost two weeks left, and my break is over. I did so little work last week I don’t think I count as a WPI student anymore. It was great, all I had to do was focus on school and work, and didn’t think about finding an internship at all, it was fantastic. To top it all off I got to go zip lining this weekend, which was amazing.

But now it’s time to get back to work. For the past two years I really just wanted a job, I didn’t care what the company did, where it was or anything like that. I just wanted a job. That’s primarily because I didn’t think any company would want to hire me. I was always too scared that no one would want to hire me because I didn’t have enough experiences or they just didn’t like me. Which is true sometimes, but as I learned why wouldn’t they want to hire me. At least now, I have an internship and a co-op under my belt, three jobs on campus, and several other organizations that I’m involved with. My GPA might not be mind-blowing but so what if I had a couple of bad terms? I wouldn’t want to work for a company that would only want me if I had a 4.0 GPA. I want to work for a company that wants me for my extracurricular activities as much or even more than my academic achievements. So this year it’s different. I’m not just applying to every company I can find, I’m looking into the company beforehand and seeing if it’s a good fit for me before they get to decide if I’m a good fit for them.

This coming week I’m going to every information session I can to learn if I want to work for these companies. I’ll research them on my own as well, and ask around before I even consider applying. The thing is WPI gives us options, we just need to believe that we have those options. So this year instead of just getting a job, let’s get the right job!

Hi everyone, My name is Ahmad. I'm a senior studying Mechanical Engineering. The main thing you should know about me is that I'm kind of weird, and it's fantastic. I like defying people's expectations, and going against social norms. Especially when it comes to careers and personal well being. You say you can't get an internship as a freshmen, I will prove you wrong. They say you can't change your career, I will show you that you can change your career at any point. They say that college is meant to be stressful, and you're supposed to just go with the motions. They say college is the best time of your life, well I beg to differ. The best time of my life should be my last. If there's any topic you want me to talk about feel free to send me an email at (I know it's an awesome email).
