5 Easy Steps To Kick Off Senior Year Early!

Getting back at WPI is by far one of the best parts of the year.

I’ve got to say: it’s great to be back on the hill!

With senior year ahead of many of us, this is an exciting and relatively open few weeks to get a list of companies for which to apply come full employment.

1. Revamp your JobFinder with an up-to-date resume and personal information.  Resumazing and resume workshops are coming up this week, so make sure to put both of them in your Calendar.  If you use Outlook’s Calendar, on JobFinder you can automatically add activities like this under its “Events” tab!

2. Do yourself a favor and choose your Top 10 for the Career Fair here. Just sign in and go to the “Events” tab, then click Fall Career Fair. Do it before Friday Sept. 13th so that you’ve got a weekend to do some background research on positions at those places that you could see yourself at.  Archived positions are listed within the “Archived Posts” section of a company’s page in JobFinder.

3. Get ahead of the curve and network prior to seeking the jobs themselves.

Wouldn’t you rather continue a conversation with someone who cares about your work and life, prior to being asked about job opportunities from a long-distance acquaintance?  Networking’s a matter of give and take, not simply e-mailing resumes.

4. Make LinkedIn your living resume, and stay active on it!

There are articles all over the internet that state the importance of keeping your Facebook profiles clean for when employers scan them, but your professional profile should be polished and up-to-date.  Put everything you wouldn’t have room for on your resume on the profile!

5. Get a great set of dress clothes to impress those employers.

Need I say more?

Making a first impression goes from apparel to the conversation. Ensure the clothing is top-notch (and your conversations are, too!)
