Our Takeaways
At the end of this project, we successfully developed a river recreation app that is stabilized and can efficiently scale in the future. The app has 6 core features, dynamic integrated contents from Explore Your Rivers, and designs that strongly promote Mass Rivers brand. Aside from the accomplishments, we encountered challenges with limitations such as
- The lack of budget reduce the amount of features that both sponsors and potential users wanted
- The lack of content resources such as images hindered the development process, since we needed to remove copyrighted images.
- The time constraint makes it difficult to collect data while simultaneously developing codes. The learning curve for app development is also too steep to be able to effectively self-study in a short time.
While reflecting upon these limitations and our process, we learned that we should have conducted interviews with potential app users early on. This would have given us more time and clear insight to determine the features to implement on the app, and having more time learning how to implement such features. However, we are optimistic that the newly developed app can help encourage people to recreate around their local rivers. Ultimately, we hope to help Mass Rivers expand their outreach and increase public awareness on the issues threatening Massachusetts rivers.
