Analyzing Perceptions of Residents Living with Flood Protection in Lower Hutt, New Zealand

                       Executive Summary        Full Report

Project Abstract

The RiverLink project aims to improve flood protection, community engagement, and transportation in Lower Hutt. Our project assisted the GWRC in assessing perceptions through community and expert interviews as well as through naturalistic observation. We found that the river parks along the Hutt River were underutilized and perceived to be unsafe, and there was a mixed level of awareness regarding RiverLink. To address these concerns, we recommended improving sightlines, adding park amenities, and increasing community engagement during construction.
