Cluster Meetings

Cluster Meetings are a concept that Flamingo had implemented to improve communication between neighbouring community members and the community leaders during the preparation phase of the construction process. We had the privilege to sit in on a cluster meeting during our first week working in Flamingo. In the meeting, community members announced their name and desired structure size and their progress in savings. Generally, it also provided the community members an opportunity to ask questions about the reblocking process. The cluster meetings increased transparency for community members by allowing them to see the involvement and investment their neighbours had made in the project by saving and contributing money.  It also updated community leaders on each individual’s progress on contributions. Lastly, by holding these meetings by cluster, community leaders got a better sense of which clusters were close to contributing the necessary funds so that they could be relocated while that cluster’s new shacks are built.
