Meet the Team

AlexAlex Church is from Trenton, New Jersey and is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Robotics. He enjoys playing rugby, soccer, hiking, and listening to music. His favorite place in Cape Town is atop Table Mountain, due to the view of the city and surrounding countryside. Although he is excited to work on all aspects of the project, what interests him most is working with community members as they start their business.

 

TatiTatiana Huet de Bacellar is from Glastonbury, Connecticut and is a junior studying Environmental Engineering with a minor in Chemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She is the Public Relations Chair of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and a tour guide for the university. In her free time, she likes to listen to music, play with animals, and spend time with friends and family. In Cape Town, Tatiana has enjoyed exploring the city and hiking various peaks. With regards to her project, she is most excited to hear about the community members’ previous experiences with energy.

 

Rachel2Rachel Kennedy is from Westlake Village, California and is a junior studying Architectural Engineering and minoring in Material Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She is currently the president of American Society of Civil Engineers and Historian of Alpha Xi Delta. In her free time, she likes spending time outdoors, building things, and being with family and friends. While in Cape Town, Rachel has enjoyed hiking Table Mountain, interacting with the community members, and going to Camp’s Bay beach. She is most excited about the opportunity to learn about energy practices in different informal settlements.

 

Jing

Jinghan Wu is from Beijing, China and is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering and Professional Writing and minoring in German at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She is currently a Senator of the Student Government Association and Purchasing Chair of Alpha Gamma Delta. During her spare time, she likes to travel, taste a variety of cuisine, and read. In Cape Town, her favorite activities are tasting all of Africa’s best foods, hiking Table Mountain, and meeting all the wonderful people on the trip. For the project, Jing is excited about working with female community members to develop entrepreneurs.
