Community Mobilisation Through Reblocking: An Interactive Upgrading Anthology

To serve as an example to future reblocking endeavors, our team created an online upgrading anthology that documents our research and experiences throughout this project. The website consists of examples, resources, and advice from the lessons we learned through practice. The purpose of this anthology is to simplify the complicated reblocking process by defining and explaining the methods and events of our project. We hope that recording our process will give insight into methods for improving reblocking and aid in the success of future efforts.

This anthology is organized into seven key themes, each of which contains an explanation of its significance as well as specific examples of techniques used within those themes. They are:

  1. Build a Background through Research, which sets the stage for the project through off-site research.
  2. Establish Context, in which the team comes to understand the project environment that they will be working in.
  3. Build Effective Working Relationships, including information on how to form a constructive relationship among partners.
  4. Identify Opportunities, where the team works with its partners to discover the most valuable opportunities that the project can address.
  5. Network to Optimize the Community’s Resources, which consists of connecting the community to local resources in order to increase their capacity to make improvements.
  6. Increase Transparency, which concerns how to optimize communication and information accessibility among partners.
  7. Map it Out, describing the process of creating a community layout map.
  8. Facilitate Construction Process, describing how to support the community in managing reblocking construction.

By reading through these sections, it will be possible to gain an understanding of our approach to this project and the many things that we learned from working with our partners.
