Worcester Polytechnic Institute: Founded in 1865 under the name Worcester County Free Institute of Industrial Science, WPI is one of the leading polytechnic schools in the country. It offers a wide variety of academic ventures, from the engineering sciences to the arts and history. It is consistently at the top of lists for best science programs, best return on investment, and best abroad programs. In the 2013-2014 edition of the Princeton Review’s “Most Popular Study Abroad Program“, WPI ranked sixth among its competitors.  WPI pioneered many aspects of the study abroad program, perfecting it for the IQP. WPI has hosted a project site in Cape Town, South Africa since 2007, and it has been a success ever since.

CORC: The Community Organisation Resource Centre, or CORC, is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) created in 2002 in order to expand the work started by the group called the People’s Dialogue on Land and Shelter. While the People’s Dialogue no longer exists, CORC continues to support efforts to build pro-poor and inclusive cities. Projects done by CORC are designed to help these communities learn for each other and unite to form a stronger, more cohesive unit. From there, the communities are able to improve the way large organisations and stakeholders look at them, and hopefully change the way people look at poverty and the move to improve the conditions of the communities. CORC will be our main sponsor throughout the course of our time in Cape Town. They will provide us with guidance as to what is needed in the community, and will aid in communicating with the community members. They will provide funding and support to our group.
