Jacob Mercier Meet the Team

Jacob is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. On campus, he is on the Varsity Track & Field team as a short sprinter. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, ultimate disc, hiking, and many other outdoor activities. His favorite place in Cape Town is on top of the various scenic mountains in the area.  He is thrilled to have the opportunity to combine his formal education and field experience in an attempt to greatly impact people within the Sizakuyenza organization.

           Julia LaValley

Julia

Julia is a Biomedical Engineering and Psychological Science double major and the president of the Psychology Society. She enjoys reading, knitting, and cooking, all while barefoot. Her favorite spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town is on the deck at the lodge or maybe for some oddly named coffee at Shift. She is most excited about the opportunity to learn more about the women and children of the Safe House and to work and learn with them.

                                      Jonathan Mirabito

Jonathan loves doodling, listening to music, and playing soccer. His favorite spot in Cape Town is atop Signal Hill. It is a quick hike to get a great view of the city and the ocean. There is a great spot to watch the sun set. While completing this project, he hopes to develop a strong bond with the women and children at the Safe House. Their stories are ones of extreme perseverance that can be used as inspiration to overcome any obstacle.

Christina is a biology/biotechnology major hoping to work in neurodegenerative research upon graduation. Her interests are reading thriller books, watching ice hockey, trying new things, and being with family. In Cape Town Christina’s favorite place is the beach at Cape Point, where the natural beauty is still untouched and the water is bright blue.
