Foundation for Community Work (FCW):

Foundation for Community Work (FCW) is the sponsor for this project. FCW is a resource ECD organisation that promotes the holistic development of children within the context of their families and communities, through innovative, integrated and sustainable programmes. FCW started out as a small, non-governmental organisation in 1974 and has grown to become a leader in the forefront of early childhood development. FCW’s main objective is fostering transformation in South Africa by actively responding to the needs of children, families, and communities through interventions that focus on building on the strengths of the people.

Setting

Vygieskraal is a township in the suburb of Athlone, Cape Town. Vygieskraal is comprised of a mix of informal shacks and RDP housing (permanent concrete structures), and is home to a mix of coloured, black, and foreign residents. It is adjacent to the Vygieskraal Stadium.

The Vygieskraal Stadium is a public stadium near the Vygieskraal settlement. It houses offices for city officials, a boardroom, a track, and a sports field.
