In the 7 weeks leading up to the WPI team’s arrival in Cape Town, research was done on the main concepts of the project that would help prepare us to interact with people, execute the project, and make the project sustainable. This research prepared us for what to expect in executing the project and how do deal with challenges faced along the way.

Our project focused on the integration of new technologies into historically disadvantaged communities. We looked at the current state of  information technology (IT) in Cape Town and developing communities, as well as strategies used in adult learning. We also researched  asset mapping techniques to prepare to build the map of technology access points for the community to use.
